No matter how old you are, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the first volume of the classic series of the same name is a hilarious experience. Originally a BBC radio series first aired in 1978, it was published as a book the next year, and later adapted to television, cinema and video games. One can only imagine that if created nowadays, the series would have started as a podcast.

Apart from creating his celebrated universe, Douglas Adams also collaborated writing for The Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Doctor Who.

British comedian Stephen Fry provides the narration for this edition, making audiobook an even more irresistible listen.

A Masterpiece of One of the Masters of Sci-Fi

It’s impossible to measure how much science-fiction owns to Isaac Asimov. For starters, he coined the term “robotics”, the study of robots. Born in Russia, he emigrated to the United States as a child and was a professor of Biochemistry at Boston University professor before becoming a renowned author of hard science-fiction.

In I, Robot, he introduced the famous Three Laws of Robotics, which stipulates that intelligent machines should protect human life. The three laws serve as the parameter for artificial intelligence not only in science-fiction but also in the real world. A few years ago, a Tesla car was involved in an accident, and its last action was to follow the laws proposed by Asimov.

A collection of nine short stories, I, Robot inspired the film of the same name starring Will Smith. But movie and book share only the name and elements of one of the stories. Check out the audiobook for a glimpse of the admiring universe created by Asimov.

A Sci-Fi Work Recommended By The US Marines

Winner of the Nebula and Hugo Awards, Ender’s Game was born a sci-fi classic. Over the three decades since its first publication, it became a cult hit among fans of the genre. Set in a distant future where human existence is threatened by the attack of an alien insect-like species, the story centres around Ender, a boy whose combat abilities can change the prospects of the war.

With a complex military and political plot, loads of action and unpredictable ending, Ender’s Game became a major picture in 2013, and its influence goes beyond the boundaries of science-fiction. The book is a suggested reading for several military organizations, including the United States Marine Corps.

Dune Frank Herbert Audiobook Download

The Lord of the Rings of Science-Fiction

Often compared to The Lord of the Rings, the Dune series is one of the most influential books in science-fiction literature. Just like Tolkien did with the Middle Earth, the fantastic universe imagined by Frank Herbert is rich and complex.

The Dune saga features a struggle for power that lasts through millennia, with intricate political alliances and interstellar wars. To put it simply: Star Wars wouldn’t exist without it.  It also tackles complex themes as ecology, religion, politics and the role of humans in the universe. But don’t worry if it all sounds overwhelming. The Road To Dune is the perfect start point.

The Road to Dune is a companion piece to the saga. The audiobook edition contains an alternate version of Dune based Herbert’s original notes, letters between Frank Herbert and his editor, unpublished chapters of the first two novel and short stories set in the Dune universe.
